There is no visible stone or marker for him on the cemetery lot which he purchased. In the 1940s when the WPA indexed Veteran's graves, there was a GAR marker on the lot. His son, Frank who was born in 1857 was listed as the veteran on the cemetery Index cards, but noted there were no records of him in the Adjunct General Records of Maine. His son was born in 1857 and only age 4 at the start of the Civil War, much to young to serve. As Amasa was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, he would have been buried in the lot he purchased.
I notebook the Gardiner Public Library which contains the names of Veterans buried in Oak Groves also has Amasa Elwell listed in this lot.
