SAVANNAH - Ms. Yvonne Byrd Kendrick, age 90, passed away peacefully at Memorial Medical Center on Tuesday, October 8, 2013.

Ms. Kendrick was loved by all who knew her as a caring, compassionate, woman that truly loved and cared about her family and friends.

Ms. Kendrick was born in Bulloch County, Georgia in 1923 into a family of 2 brothers and 4 sisters whom she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years Mr. Charles Mossman Kendrick, Lt Col, USAF, Retired, her parents Bessie and Charles Byrd, brothers Garnet and Winton, and her beloved sisters: Eula, Eunice, Hester and Wynell, and a beloved daughter-in-law Helen K. Kendrick. Ms. Kendrick was also preceded in death by her very dear friend and cousin, Ms. Kathleen Moore.

Ms. Kendrick graduated from Commercial High School in 1942 and worked as an executive assistant for Pidcock advertising company for many years.

Ms. Kendrick enjoyed being a military wife and mother where she traveled and lived throughout the country and the world, and lived in various parts of the country, which gave her a unique perspective on life. She finally settled back in Savannah, which is where she made her home for the rest of her life.

She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, and a part of the Invincible Bible Sunday School Class since 1969. Ms. Kendrick was also a member of the Calvary Reflections Exercise Class for over 30 years where she enjoyed many fun years of friendship and fellowship.

The following survivors are honored to continue her legacy: Her daughter Kimberly K. Byrd (Steve) of Savannah; Vance C. Kendrick (Cristi) of Florence, Kentucky; one granddaughter, Kelly J. Veal (Mark) of LaGrange, GA, and one precious great-granddaughter, who is her namesake, Miss Helen Yvonne Veal. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins who are especially close to their Aunt Yvonne, who is affectionately known respected, and beloved throughout the entire family.
The family would like to thank her loving caregivers, Ms. Patricia Greene, and Ms. Sabrina Green who have taken care of her for the last several years.

You will be so missed by those of us who are left in the world, but heaven has gained one amazing angel. We know you are dancing with your sisters and friends in the streets of gold today!

Visitation: 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel.

Funeral services:12 p.m. noon Friday, October 11, 2013 at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel with Pastor Derward Pool officiating.
