John Andrew was the first born son of four and first born child of seven of William Frederick and Lela Augusta Kinser Heinatz.

He served in the United States Army in World War I, serving in Company I, 59th Infantry. He was killed in action in France. When a young man in Leander he was a member of the Woodmen of the World Fraternal Organization.
