John Frederick was the first born son of five and the first born child of Johann Friedrich and Anna Dorothea Dalhelm Heinatz.
He emigrated to Texas from Germany in 1948 and settled in Austin and then later in Bagdad, which was later known as Leander, Williamson, Texas.
He first married Bertha Amalie Theresa Eleanore Raven in Austin, Travis, Texas on 11 June 1855. Bertha died at the early age of 23 1/2 years old. There were no children from this union.
He married second on 10 December 1863 in Bagdad, Williamson, Texas to Emilie Marie Ernestine Krohn. This union produced nine children, six boys and 3 girls.
John Frederick was a very active community leader, owning and operating a general mercantile store, serving as postmaster of Leander and, along with his spouse, took on the maintenance responsibilities for the Methodist Church in Leander. He and his wife were truly pioneer people and they devoted their time and energies to God, family and community. All of their children learned life-long skills in the mercantile business.
