Ruby "Doris" Neely
(April 12, 1921 - June 20, 2016)

Ruby “Doris” Neely, 95, formerly of Pittsburg, died at 4:23 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood, MO.

She was born April 12, 1921, at Olustee, OK, to Reuben and Alice (Holden) Willoughby. Doris attended Olustee schools, excelling in volleyball and basketball. Even though their schools were fierce rivals, Doris met Landrum (Skinny) Neely, fell in love and they were married on December 21, 1940. Their daughter Karen Renee was born March 27, 1953 and was adopted by Doris and Skinny. She was their most precious gift. They moved from Lawton, Okla., to Pittsburg in 1966. Doris was a homemaker and was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Trowbridge and her husband Bob of Miller, MO; two granddaughters Maggie Buckner and her husband Rodney of Branson West, MO, and Robyn Evans and her husband Robert of Stotts City, MO; two great-grandchildren Payge and Jaxen Evans and many nieces and nephews, and countless friends and acquaintances. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Thelma Watson White and Geneva Prestridge, and a brother Gilbert (Sonny) Willoughby.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday (June 25) at the Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Hart of Trinity Baptist Church and Pastor Bob Holman of the Round Grove Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Miller Memorial Garden Cemetery at Miller, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions go to the Good Shepherd Nursing Home 200 West 12th Street, Lockwood, MO 65682; Good Endings Room. These may also be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
