"Charles L. Bailey, 73, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Bailey retired in March 1984 from Union Carbide Nuclear Division. He was a procurement engineer at the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant.
He was born in Alton, Ill., on Aug. 9, 1924, the son of Joseph Benjamin Bailey and Matilda Ackleberry Bailey. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force and served as a pilot during World War II and the Korean War.
He and his wife, Lois Paul Bailey, by whom he is survived, would have been married 53 years in February. They have been Oak Ridge residents for 34 years.
Mr. Bailey was a member of Central Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling, the family said. "
