Union, November 23, 1921
John Fincher Long, one of Jonesville's oldest and most respected citizens, died suddenly Sunday morning at the home of his son, Mr. Ed Long, just north of Jonesville, and was buried Monday afternoon ay 3:30 o'clock at Gilead cemetery.
Mr. Long was 78 years of age and was a brother of the late lamented Sheriff J.G Long. He was a Confederate veteran, having served the entire four years of the War Between The States and making a galliant soldier.
Mr. Long is survived by three sons, Messrs. Ed, William and Maneh Long, and a number of grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Messrs. Grant and Walker Long, and one sister, Miss Pattie Long, all of Jonesville.
The funeral services were conducted in the Presbyterian Church at Jonesville at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon by the Reverend S.T. Blackman, pastor of the Methodist Church there, and the internment was at Gilead Cemetery. The entire grave was covered with many beautiful floral tributes.
