Auverne "Clair" Crandall, Sr
Auverne “Clair” Crandall, Sr. passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016 peacefully in his sleep. He was 87 years old. He was born in a farm house on October 9, 1928, in Little River, Kansas, of Paul Revere and Jessie Riley Crandall. He attended a country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Little River High School in 1946. He went to Hutchinson Junior College and then transferred to Wichita University, where he met his wife, Dorothy Jean Hellar. They married in 1949 and had five children. He worked as an attendant at Security Oil Company in Wichita, then as a salesman for Innes, and found his future with White Star Machinery Company. He progressed from salesman to Sales Manager, to Vice President and then transferred as president of their parent company, Berry Tractor, where he retired at age 60. While working there he attended Harvard Business School and earned a Master’s Degree. He loved working and keeping busy. He continued to farm with his brother throughout his life, and after retirement he purchased and ran businesses including equipment rental stores. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dee; sister-in-law, Marcie (Max, deceased) Crandall of Little River, KS; brother, Norman (Nadine) Crandall; sister Barbara (Dean) Brooks. He is also survived by three sons, Del and John Crandall, both of Wichita, Joe (Toni) Crandall of Hong Kong; two daughters, Karen Carson of Loveland, CO, Angela (James) Meadows of O’Fallon, IL; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 9:00 – 9:40 A.M.; Funeral Service will follow at 10:00 A.M., both at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7011 E. 13th St. N., Wichita. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, 1000 N. Hillside, Wichita. Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
