Dr. Francis Roe Benham, 55, chief surgeon on the staff of the Onondaga General Hospital and for 29 years engaged in the practice of medicine and surgery in this city, died at 8:20 o’clock this morning at his home 1112 East Genesee Street, after an illness of only three days. Death was due to a stomach ailment.

Dr. Benham is survived by his widow, Mrs. Clara Andrews Benham; a son, Strever Andrews Benham; a daughter, Mrs. Donald K. (Sarah) Templeton of 891 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo; a brother, the Rev. W. Hamilton Benham of Elmira; a grandson, Robert Roe Templeton of Buffalo and a granddaughter, Jane Biehler Benham of Syracuse.

Private funeral services will be held in the home at 9:30 o’clock Tuesday morning. Friends may call at the home between 3 and 6 o’clock Monday afternoon. The body will be taken to Ithaca for burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Dr. Benham was born in Newark, N.Y., Sept. 22, 1875, the son of the late James Vincent Benham and Emma Baker Benham. His parents later moved to Syracuse to live. Dr. Benham was graduated from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Conn., and received his medical degree from the College of Medicine, Syracuse University, in 1901.

After his graduation from the College of Medicine, Dr. Benham studied in Paris and London before beginning his practice in Syracuse. In recent years he had devoted most of his time to his duties at the Onondaga General Hospital.

From 1902 10 1904 Dr. Benham served as an instructor in clinical obstetrics in the College of Medicine. He was a member of the Syracuse Academy of Medicine, the Onondaga County Medical Society, the Medical Society of the State of New York, Syracuse Automobile Club, Citizens Club, and the University Club.
