Bascom was a US Army veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and a retired grading contractor. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Winfred "Duck" Murray and Jim H. Murray. He was survived by his daughter, his sister, and two grandchildren.
