Arlene B. Homan of Wagoner, Oklahoma passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Home in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Mrs. Homan was born September 10, 1929 in Pawnee, Oklahoma. Her parents were Lewis and Henrietta (Semik) Zmotony. She graduated from the Pawnee Public Schools in 1947 and enrolled in the Muskogee Hospital School of Nursing, Muskogee, Oklahoma. She graduated, passed her State Board of Examination, and was certified as a Registered Nurse in 1950. Her education included an internship in Psychiatry at St. Mary's Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She received graduate credit in nursing from Peabody University, Nashville, Tennessee, Communicable Disease Center, Atlanta, Georgia and the Oklahoma University Children's, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Arlene was married on November 22, 1950 to Sam L. Homan of Eufaula, Oklahoma. During her professional career, she served as an Assistant Supervisor of Surgery at the Muskogee General Hospital until she accepted a position as a Public Health Nurse with the Oklahoma State Department of Health in McIntosh and Caddo counties. In 1957, she accepted the position of Head Nurse and Assistant Administrator for the Wagoner County Health Department. In 1972, Arlene accepted a position with the Oklahoma City County Health Department as program Supervisor. She held this position until her retirement in July, 1986. Mrs. Homan served as President of the Wagoner Study Club, President of the Ellington Elementary school P.T.A., past member of the Oklahoma Council of Aging, past member and Chairperson of the Wagoner County Cancer Society, past member and Secretary of the Oklahoma Nurses Association of the Oklahoma Public Health Nursing Division, past member and President of the Wagoner Federated Club. She is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 161, Eufaula, Oklahoma and received her fifty year pin in 2003. Arlene is also a member of Chapter EU of P.E.O., and the First United Methodist Church of Wagoner, Oklahoma. She is listed in Who's Who of American Women. Mrs. Homan was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, her parents, two sisters, Angela Morgan and baby Mavis Ann Zmotony and her brother, Ralph Zmotony. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 16, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of Wagoner, Oklahoma with Reverend Yvonne Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery at Eufaula.
