Lt. D.B. Wagstaff Sr., retired N.C. State Highway Patrol, age 85, left this world on June 10, 2016 to join his beloved “Dot” in heaven. He was born in Durham, N.C. to Vester Gibson and Janie Keck Wagstaff.

D.B. served four years in the U.S. Air Force and 31 years with the State Highway Patrol. He served as Commandant of the Highway Patrol Training Center and enjoyed working Governor’s Security with several N.C. Governors. He was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Gov. Terry Sanford and Gov. Bob Scott. D.B. was an elder and active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy Killough Wagstaff; and his sister, Barbara Jean Weathers.

He is survived by his son, Brinkley and wife Kathy; daughter, Debbie Allcox, and husband Irvin; and son, Rusty and wife Bonnie. His grandchildren, Katie (Kevin), Joe (Braydan), Christina, Lauren, Meghan (Tom), Mary (David); and his great-grandchildren, Lila, Brody, and Parker.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2016 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 125 S. Selma Road, Wendell, NC 27591. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery, Industrial Drive, Wendell, with honors by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
