Florence Oma Choate

Florence Oma Choate, the loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, left to join her late husband, J.C. Choate, in the Lord April 28, 2005, at her home in North Richland Hills.

Mrs. Choate was born June 25, 1921, in Bangs. She was married to the late J.C. Choate, a pioneer of Sweetwater, for over 65 years. Mrs. Choate was very active in community affairs of Sweetwater. She was a 1,500 hour member of the Ladies Auxiliary for Rolling Plains Hospital, Worthy Matron of the local Easter Star Chapter, a working member of the American Red Cross, served as president for the Bochuants the ladies counter to the Masonic Knight Templars, a 40 year member of the 800 Lamar Church of Christ, and a Doe in the local Elks Chapter. She spent many years working along side her husband in the Kirby vacuum business on the south side of the square and later from their home on Grand Street in Sweetwater. Her delight in life was that of being a great wife, dedicated mother, and a friend to all that she knew.

Though most of her life was dedicated to Sweetwater, she and her husband moved to North Richland Hills in 2004 because of health reasons and to be close to her sons and grandchildren. There, she lived after her husband of 41 years passed away Jan. 16, 2005, and remained with her son and daughter-in-law until her passing.

A family visitation will be held Sunday, May 1, 2005, from 7-9 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.

Services will be held at McCoy Chapel of Memories Monday, May 2, 2005, at 2 p.m. with Bill Johnston officiating her services. She will be laid to rest along side her husband at Garden of Memories.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Christi Choate; five other sons, James Edwin Knapp and his wife, Shirley, of Ennis, Jon Knapp of Ennis, Kenneth Mark Knapp and his wife, Lorene, of Cleburne, George Wayne Knapp and Raymond Knapp. Mrs. Choate has a brother, Robert DeArman and his wife of Arizona; a sister, Fredie Wilson of Valley Mills; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Rita Choate of Roscoe and Mrs. Cleo Reid of Abilene; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition, so very many friends that she held with such high regard and respect.

The family would like for any memorials to be forwarded to Peter Sheridan, Attorney at Law, P.O. Bow 488, Sweetwater, TX 79556, to be dedicated to the Masonic Bodies of Sweetwater for their many, many charitable causes.
