Maxine Jeanette Slangal, 76, of Scio died July 19.

She was born in Centralia, Wash. She lived in Little Rock, Wash., from 1937 to 1944. She moved to Port Angeles, Wash., and then to Albany in 1950, where she graduated from Albany High School. She worked as a nurse's aide after graduating at the Albany Hospital.

She married Joe Slangal on April 19, 1952, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany. She was a very devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother.

Her hobbies included collecting antiques and keeping track of movie stars.

Survivors include husband Joe Slangal of Scio; daughters and sons-in-law Teresa and Frank Montoya of Scio, Shirley Slangal and Ed Sprugeon of Scio, and Connie and Mike Hays of Scio; and grandchildren Joel Montoya, Sara Cline, Chad Montoya, Emily McDonald and Kristin Bochsler.

A memorial Mass will be Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany.

Weddle Funeral Home in Stayton is handling arrangements.

Maxine Slangal, 76, was the daughter of Ed and Viola Brown.

Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, decorating, drawing and reading. She loved going to the coast.

Maxine was a very devout and spiritual person. She was known by those close to her to be a great philosopher and storyteller with a wonderful laugh and sense of humor. She was a devoted wife, and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include husband Joe Slangal of Scio; daughters and sons-in-law Theresa and Frank Montoya, Shirley Slangal and Ed Spurgeon, and Connie and Mike Hays, all from Scio; grandchildren and spouses Joel Montoya, Sara and Steve Cline, Chad Montoya, Emily and Hank McDonald, and Kristin and Casey Bochsler; great-grandchild Baily McDonald; sisters Janice Strunk of Jefferson and Veronica Frink of Ilwaco, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sister Gloria Rose Brown.
