Sublimity - Hugh "Mel" Amsberry DMD died in Stayton and was received into eternal life on Monday, January 23, 2012. Mel was born September 13, 1925 in Sisters, OR to Hugh and Connie Amsberry. He was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Madden (Redmond) and his younger brother David Amsberry (Stayton).

Mel grew up in Independence, OR and attended Oregon State University, Dartmouth University and graduated from University of Oregon Dental School in 1951.

Mel met Lorraine Dehoff while serving his country in the navy and they were married on September 16, 1950 in York, PA. They migrated to Oregon where they eventually settled in Sublimity and raised eight sons while working as a Pediatric Dentist in Salem. After retirement Mel continued to volunteer his dental services to those in need here and abroad.

Mel's love lives on in his wife of 61 years, Lorraine (Sublimity), and his children and their families: Deacon Chuck & Carol Amsberry (Beaverton), Steve (DVM) and Kristi Amsberry (Corvallis), Joe & Marylen Amsberry (Aumsville), Tom Amsberry (Otis), Dan & Ann Amsberry (Denver), Jim (MD) & Eileen Amsberry(San Diego), Michael (DVM) & Jenny Amsberry (Tarpon Springs, FL) and Fr. John Amsberry (Portland). Mel and Lorraine have 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Vigil will be Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 7:00 pm and the mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday January 30, 2012 both at Immaculate Conception Church (Stayton) as friends and family gathered to honor and give thanks for this simple servant of Christ. In lieu fo flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in honor of Mel's desire to help those in need. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
