Emma Blalock

MEBANE – Mrs. Emma McCullock Blalock, 72, of 404 S. 4th St. died Tuesday afternoon at her home following a brief illness.

A native of Person County, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Amelia Katherine Cates McCullock, and was the widow of the late James David Blalock. She was a member of Wheeler’s Primitive Baptist Church in Person County.

Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Louise Porterfield, Rt. 2, Hurdle Mills, Mrs. Christine Porterfield and Mrs. Mattie Whitfield, both of Timberlake, Mrs. Blanche Barnwell and Mrs. Shirley Yarborough, both of Prospect Hill, Mrs. Joyce Loftis, Rt. 1, Roxboro; sons, James Blalock, Mebane, Ervin Blalock, Rt. 2, Roxboro; sisters, Mrs. Lessie Shoffner and Miss Hattie McCullock, both of Burlington, Mrs. Naomi Brown, Liberty, Mrs. Ruth Cates, Durham; 37 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Final rites will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wheeler’s Primitive Baptist Church, Elder L. P. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove United Methodist Church cemetery in Orange County.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

The body was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joyce Loftis, Rt. 1, Roxboro, today to remain until taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
