CORNING -- Wilfrid M. Eisenbarth, 83, Corning, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at a hospital in Topeka. He was injured in a fall at home April 19 and was transferred to a Topeka hospital where he underwent surgery.

He was born Nov. 4, 1915, east of Corning, to William F. and Martha Duethman Eisenbarth, and attended St. Patrick's Catholic School in Corning. He owned and operated a farm southeast of Corning from 1947 until 1971 when he moved into Corning. He drove a rock truck for Nemaha County several years before he retired in 1980.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. He rode gliders with the 17th Airborne Division during the Battle of the Bulge in Europe. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart medal and three Bronze Star medals for bravery. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Arthur L. Mills Post No. 37 of the American Legion, both in Corning. He and Rosalia "Sally" Weber were married Oct. 17, 1939, in St. Benedict. She survives. Other survivors include sons, Francis Eisenbarth, Fairfax, Va., Thomas Eisenbarth, Bern, and Roger Eisenbarth, Corning; daughters, Betty Becker, Corning, Elaine Becker and Patricia Flentie, both in Centralia, Mary J. Eisenbarth, St. Joseph, Mo., and Marlene Wolfe, Centreville, Va.; a sister, Beatrice "Bea" Stallbaumer, Chickasha, Okla.; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Corning. The American Legion will conduct graveside services at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Corning. Rosaries will be recited at 1 and 8 p.m. today at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mr. Eisenbarth will lie in state after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Contributions may be made to the Wilfrid Eisenbarth Memorial Fund yet to be designated.
