During her high school years she was very involved with student government and was selected to attend Girls State in Boise. Music was a part of everyday life in her home. She was part of a women’s sextet with her closest friends and loved singing throughout the valley. She graduated in the first graduating class of Bonneville High School in 1952. Although desiring education beyond high school, Geniece was a self-educated woman, acquiring knowledge and skills in many areas.
In her senior year, she met the love of her life, David William Smith of Jackson Hole Wyoming. After waiting for her to graduate from high school, they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 17, 1953, which was her 19th birthday. They made their home in Idaho Falls and lived in the same house for 63 years. Together they raised 4 children, LaVaun (David Ball), Kellan, (Linda), LeAnn (Steve Jensen), and Curtis (Kris).
She worked as a secretary at Snake River Mutual Insurance Company, and as a teller at several banks. She loved being a wife, mother and homemaker. She was truly the world’s greatest Grandma, always having a stash of goodies at the ready and was the greatest supporter of all events.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served in many callings, on both ward and the stake level. She served 18 years in the Idaho Falls Temple with Dad and made many lasting friendships there.
Geniece was a friend to all. Making new friends daily with store clerks, bank teller, and medical staff. She was always taking dinner or a loaf of bread to someone. Everyone always felt welcome in her home. She saw the good in everyone, enjoyed serving others, and loved our Savior Jesus Christ. Her life was devoted to her family. Some of the things she will forever be remembered for are her potato salad, English Toffee, Hot Chicago, sweet rolls, dipped chocolates, beautiful music, and long warm hugs.
She is survived by her husband, David, all of her children and their spouses, 16 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 17, 2016, at the 9th Ward Building (2nd and Higbee), with Bishop David Gemar officiating. The family will visit with family and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls. Burial will be in the Ucon Cemetery.
