Jim was the son of William Wesley Anderson (Jan. 3, 1849-July 24, 1916) and Elsie Robinson (Aug. 6, 1849-March 24, 1921).

James "Jim" Henry Anderson, Sr., married Ella Frances Stutts Aycock on August 9, 1909 in Richmond, North Carolina. Ella was the daughter of Noah Bethune Stutts (Feb. 5, 1844-Aug. 23, 1918) and Charlotte Frances "Callie" Stutts (1854-1930). James H. Anderson and Ella F. Stutts Aycock had six children: Myrtice "Myrt" Anderson (1910-?), Willie Patricia "Pat" Anderson Horne Simmons (June 7, 1912-Aug. 7, 2010), William Wesley Anderson (Jan. 16, 1914- Sept. 4, 1975), Ella "Sis" Anderson Williams (Oct. 6, 1915?-?), James "Jimmy" Henry Anderson, Jr. (July 13, 1922-March 23, 1926), Marcellus "Teetie" or "Mark" Baldwin Anderson (Oct. 12, 1917?-June 17, 2002).

Ella Stutts was the widow of James Brantley Aycock (Oct. 3, 1862-July 1, 1905); James was the son of Thomas Franklin Aycock, Sr. and Susan Jane Harris. James B. Aycock and Ella F. Stutts had two children: Charles Brantley Aycock (Dec. 13, 1901-April 6, 1973) and Mary Frances Aycock Roberts (Sept. 20, 1904-June 21, 1985).

James "Jim" Henry Anderson served with the Tennessee Volunteers in the Spanish American War. He was later a salesman for Harry L. Schlesinger Candy Company, Madison Avenue, Atlanta, Georgia. Schlesinger Candy Company manufactured Charlie's Kisses (peanut butter kisses), chocolate-covered cherries, and hard penny-candy.
