Martin Luther Baker, 84, Fairfield, died at 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Kane, Arendtsville, from a complication of diseases following a lingering illness.
Mr. Baker, a retired farmer, was a son of the late William H and Sarah Overholtzer Baker and resided all of his life in Adams county. For a number of years he served as a school director and constable in Liberty township. He was a member of Zion Lutheran church, Fairfield and the IOOF of Fairfield.
Mr. Baker was twice married. His first wife, the former Lucy Ellen Manhelz, died in 1915. His second wife, the former Mary A Ridgeon, of Frederick, died in 1941.
Surviving are five daughter; Mrs. John Rider, Gettysburg RD; Mrs. Blaine Waddle, Fairfield; Mrs. Oliver Sanders, Fairfield RD; Mrs. John W Eyler, Emmitsburg RD; and Mrs. Kane, with whom he resided, 18 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Elisha Seabrook; Fairfield, and Mrs. George Hare, Biglerville.
Funeral services Friday afternoon at 2:00 from the Allison funeral home, Fairfield, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Norman S. Wolf.. Interment in Union cemetery, Fairfield.
