Theodore L. (Ted) Slater died July 17, 1989, in the Community Hospital, E.C.F. in Bonners Ferry. Memorial services were held Monday, July 24, 1989 at 2 p.m. in the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Nelson officiating.
Ted was born Nov 20, 1902 in Muscatine County, Iowa, to Isaac and Kathryn Slater. As a small child he lived on Montana sheep ranches and moved to Spirit Lake, Idaho to attend school. He moved to Bonners Ferry just before high school graduation in April of 1921, with his mother, step-father, Prentiss S. Brown, brother, Frank and sister-in-law Irene.
He started working on the bridge gang of the Spokane International Railroad that year. He worked as foreman, brakman, and conductor until he retired in 1966.
On Jan 20, 1929 he married Annie Ellena Dunning in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. They lived in Bonners Ferry until 1959 when they moved to Spokane, Wash. They returned to Bonners Ferry in 1970 after Ted's retirement and lived here until Ellena's death in December of 1975. On Jan. 10, 1977, Ted married Blanche Peterson in Bonners Ferry. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking, playing cards, talking to people, and his children and grandchildren.
Ted is survived by his wife, Blanche Slater at their home; one son, Ted W. Slater of Danville, Calif.; a daughter, Leanna Morice of Bonners Ferry; four granddaughters, Linda Morice of Seattle, Wash., Nancy Carlson of Bonners Ferry, Elizabeth Slater of Pacheco, Calif., and Janet Slater of Sacramento, Calif.; three grandsons, Jim Morice of Mountain View, Calif., Ted A. Slater of San Ramon, Calif., and Tom Slater of Danville, Calif.; three great grandsons, Gregg and Kelly Carlson of Bonners Ferry and Justin Theodore Slater of Danville, Calif.; one step-son, Bill Johnston of Bonners Ferry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Blanche, a brother, Frank, and his first wife, Ellena.
A memorial has been established to the Alzheimers Association.
