Mrs. Hilda Slade Midgette was born on March 12, 1912 in Hyde County, North Carolina to the late Lewis & Delia(Jones) Slade. In the early hours of the morning on Monday, October 11, 1999, she slipped away quietly to join the heavenly host. With the words of assurance "well done", the angels invited her to "Come Home"; and Hilda released her grip on life and obeyed the call of the most High God.
Hilda was the wife of the late Rev. Harvey B. Midgette, Sr., Pastor of Old Richmond Baptist Church in Hyde County, NC., where she was a member for twenty-eight years. She was the mother of nine children. Hilda was loved by all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish the joy of her memories; three daughters, Annie L. Blackmon of Charlotte, NC, Betty J. Midgette and Ella L. Phillips both of Riverhead, NY; two sons, Willie L. Midgette, Sr. (JoAnn) of Belhaven, NC and Samuel L. Midgette, Sr. (Lucille) of Bronx, NY.; two sister Ida Howard and Dorothy Howard both of Queens, NY; and one sister-in-law, Mary E. Slade of Pantego, NC; fifteen grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death two daughters, Hilda Midgette and Gloria Mae Midgette, and two sons, Oscar L. Midgette and Harvey B. Midgette, Jr.
