Samuel Rayford Epperson, 82, of Athens stepped into the arms of Jesus, his Savior on June 9, 2016. He was born on July 4, 1933 to Noah Charlie and Audra Dale Epperson in Malta, TX.
Mr. Epperson spent his early years in Texarkana, TX before moving to Tyler, TX in 1957. He worked for LaGloria Refinery for 40 years, and owned and operated Epperson Sprinkler Service. In 1996 he married his sweetheart Sandra Tramel Epperson, they enjoyed 20 years of love and blessings.
They were longtime members of Green Acres Baptist Church of Tyler where they enjoyed singing in the Celebration Choir, and being members of John Child’s Sunday school class. With a heart for missions, Sam and Sandy worked with the Volunteer Christian Builders, using the talents God gave them to further His kingdom by helping to build churches. In 2015, they joined Lake Athens Baptist Church where they found a loving church family.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sandy Tramel Epperson. One son, Jeff Epperson and wife Karen. One daughter, Debi Flanagan, and daughter-in-law Georganne Epperson. Stepchildren, Beth Neu, Beverly and Gordon McDaniel. Grandchildren, Laura Epperson, Matthew Epperson, Megan Epperson, Tyler Epperson, Jacob Epperson, Seana Flanagan, Brigid Flanagan, Cole McMichael, Nick McDaniel, Hope McDaniel, Isaiah McDaniel. One great-granddaughter, Lillian McMichael.
Mr. Epperson was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Noel Epperson and Kenneth Epperson. Two sisters Shirley Cherry and Ruby Crank. One son, Bobby Ray Epperson, and son-in-law Timothy Flanagan.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Epperson, Tyler Epperson, Matthew Epperson, Jonah Johnson, Noah Johnson and Dusty Dickerson.
