James Bailey (Burial Location Unknown) was the son of John "Thumby" Bailey and Nancy Tunnell, grandson of Revolutionary War Patriot John Bailey and Sarah Tatum Minter - reference multiple DAR certifications including my own 944449. The Bailey family is documented in Notable Southern Families, Volume 3, page 317. Notable Southern Families is a 6 volume set of books detailing the Tunnell and associated families, copyright 1922 by Zella Armstrong on file with LDS, Harvard University Libraries, and the Library of Congress.

James Bailey married Elizabeth "Betsy" Bourne Garrison in 1831 in Virginia. Together they were the parents of:
Reuben 1831-1913
John 1836-1915
Nancy Jane "Jincy" Bailey 1838-1922 m. Henry Engle
Susan Bailey 1843
Gabriel Bailey 1843-1930
Harrison Bailey 1844-1914
James T Bailey 1847-1925
William Mintor "Mint" Bailey 1850-1931
Marion Bailey 1851-1894
Charity Bailey 1854-1932 m. William S. Fee

The Bailey and Garrison families settled in Leslie County, Kentucky. James Bailey and Elizabeth Garrison's first survey and land grant was filed in 1849 for land on "Little Cutshin", warrant number #491 authorized CCO is 40170, on file in the land office in Frankfurt, Kentucky. James and Elizabeth farmed this valley land and cut the mature timber located there. This made it possible for the Bailey and Garrison families to extend their timber business dramatically. They would go on to purchase another 1200 acres in the area.

James' son William Mintor Bailey was the administrator of his father's estate. Family has a copy of this bond which states "The Commonwealth of Kentucky has appointed William Mintor Bailey of Leslie County, Kentucky, administrator of James Bailey deceased, dated August 19, 1895".
