She married Ed Clayton on July 18th, 1927. In the 1930s, they moved to from Iowa to Mountain Home, Arkansas, with their five children. They bought property, where they sold gas and groceries. Bertha many times cared for the business and family while her husband went off to harvest.
The yearning for farm life brought them to Tyrone, Missouri, in 1951, where they bought a grape vineyard. When Mr. Clayton's health failed, they moved to Summersville, MO. Bertha worked in the garment factory until she retired. Mr. Clayton died in 1962 after a massive heart attack.
She then married Walter Ball on Oct. 2nd, 1965. A few years later, Walter was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away in 1970. In 1972 Bertha married Herschel Wofford.
The Woffords spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona, before moving there permanently.
After Herschel passed away, she remained in Mesa with her many friends and a very special friend, Charlie. They loved to dance, play cards and travel. In 1996, health issues brought her back to Harrison, Ark.
She was preceded in death by three husbands; two daughters, Dorothy Clayton in 1932 and Joann Ice in 1961; and two sons, Donald in 1992 and Robert Clayton in 2006.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Talburt of Harrison, Ark., and Betty McGee of Fort Smith, Ark.; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 28 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Howell Burkhead officiating, Burial was in the Ozark Cemetery.
