Gay Nadine (Killius) Brownlee, 73, of Harrisonburg, VA and formerly of Springs, PA, passed away on June 5, 2016 at her residence after a two year battle with colon cancer.

Ms. Brownlee was born on July 7, 1942 in Springs, PA and was a daughter of the late Walter A. and Loveta C. (Ash) Killius. Also preceded in death by son Chad David, brother James Killius, sister Nonna Beitzel, and son-in-law George Pope.

Ms. Brownlee was a graduate of Salisbury Elk Lick HS in 1960. After raising her six children and working various local jobs, she completed a writing course which allowed her to move into journalism for several publications. Most well-known was her reporting for local and agricultural events which were published in the Daily American, Tribune Review and Lancaster Farming. She was the recipient of several awards from the Virginia Farm Bureau for her reporting. In addition, while still living in Springs and working for the Daily American she humored folks with her personal column titled, “Gay’s Days.”

While living in Harrisonburg, she volunteered for Gift and Thrift, Crisis Pregnancy Center (AVA), WRE school program, Lindale Child Care, and taught adult SS classes.

Born and raised in Springs, she attended Springs Mennonite Church until her move to Harrisonburg VA in 2001, at which time her membership was transferred to Lindale Mennonite Church. In recent years, she attended Greenmount Church of the Brethren. She was an avid Bible reader, participated in multiple Bible studies including BSF, and worshipped the Lord with her whole heart. She had a vision for prayer ministry and a deep desire for her family and friends to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. Regardless of where she worshipped, she would be found teaching or praying to further the kingdom of heaven. She loved nature and had a keen sense of humor.

She is survived by her children, Shelby Brownlee Conard (Franklin), Charles Town, WV, Natalie Beiler (Larry) Harrisonburg, VA, Tracy Elder (Joel) Springs, PA, Lisa Simpson (Ralph) Lemon Grove, CA, C. Weston Brownlee (Trixie) Argyle, TX, and Seth Brownlee (Sharla) Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Joshua Pope (Jocelyn), Nathaniel Beiler (Ashten), Samantha Brownlee, Bailey Brownlee, Megan Elder, and Rachel Elder; sister, Joyce Brenneman (Harley) Grantsville, MD; sister-in-law Vera Killius, Carlisle, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
