BYRON CALVIN JOHNSON, the only known issue of Indiana native CALVIN R. JOHNSON, never knew the father who died in a tragic mining accident before his son's second birthday. Byron grew to adulthood in the Salt Lake City residence of his widowed mother Eustacia, three older half-siblings from her first marriage, and income-generating boarders. Byron was a mail carrier for the US Postal Service in Salt Lake City and eventually became executive secretary of the U.S. Federal Civil Service Board of Examiners in Salt Lake. Byron also served as Secretary of the Utah State Association of Letter Carriers and was an active member of the Masonic Knights organization. He apparently never married.
