On Friday, May 27, 2016, Sara McCarty Warren, "Aunt Sara", passed at "Overlook" in Warrenton, VA at age 95.

Along with her brothers, Harry and Dennis, she attended The Boxwood School in Delaplane, run by their Aunt Clara McCarty. Sara graduated from Marshall High School, Marshall. She graduated from Richmond Polytechnic Institute in 1941.

Sara trained as a medical technologist at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville and then moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked at Georgetown Hospital. Later she worked with Dr. Craine at Washington's Yater Clinic.

While in D.C. she met Delmer Lee "Tommy" Thompson, a bacteriologist. They married in 1948. Later they had a daughter, Mary. He passed in February 1953.

Sara returned home to Fauquier, commuting weekly to Madison College for additional studies.

She became Marshall High School's librarian and in October 1954 married her childhood friend, James Morris Warren, postmaster of Delaplane.

She worked part-time as a medical technologist at Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal, then as bookkeeper at The Delaplane Store with her friend Louie "Teenie" Leas.

She was devoted to God and served in all areas of church life at Emmanuel, including the Vestry.

Education was also important to Sara; most of the women in her family were teachers. To honor them and future generations, she established The McCarty Scholarship using part of her monthly social security check.

Sara was all about family and friends. She adored music. And she enjoyed the beautiful Virginia countryside, especially the birds and butterflies. "Aunt Sara" loved people and wished that everyone would follow the Golden Rule.
