Mr. Askew was a member of the Restoration Church-Phoebus Baptist and Monitor Masonic Lodge 197, Phoebus, for 51 years.
The four-year Army veteran was in the Navy veteran during WW II.
He was a native of Ahoskie, N.C., and a Peninsula resident for 65 years.
Survived by a daughter, of Hampton; a sister, of Kingwood, Texas; and a grandchild.
Visitation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. Funeral 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial in Parklawn Memorial Park.
