He later married Alberta Pottorff on February 2, 1988. He grew up in the Louisburg area and graduated from Louisburg High School in 1942.
He was inducted into the United States Army in 1944 and served until being honorably discharged in 1946 as Tec 5 (Sergeant). Clarence worked for the United States Postal Service before retiring in 1984. Clarence loved to play golf and was an avid gardener and was especially famous for his tomatoes. He also looked forward to going on his annual pheasant hunting trip with his buddies. Clarence was a lifetime member of the Louisburg American Legion Post # 250, VFW, NARF and ALB.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Helen Shea; one brother, Wilbur Dean Whitaker and one step-son, Billy Dean Pottorff.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta (affectionately known as "Bert"), of the home; two sons, Allen (Patty) Whitaker and Jim (Debbie) Whitaker; one brother, Lester Whitaker; one sister, Dorothy Haney, two step-daughters, Dixie (Shawn) Jennings and Rebecca (Jeff) Shaffer and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
