Caroline "Carrie" G. Van Erem, 98, of De Pere, died peacefully on June 3, 2016 at Rennes Nursing Home in De Pere.
The daughter of Peter and Gertrude (Baumgart) Hager was born on March 27, 1918 in Denmark. She married Arthur Van Erem on June 14, 1938 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Lena, WI. Carrie was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Parish of De Pere for over 78 years. She served on the Parish Council, Worship Committee and served as President of the Altar Rosary Society for over 20 years. For over 35 years, Carrie belonged to the 3rd Order of St. Francis and St. Mary's of the Angel of Green Bay. She received the Kiwansis Award, took care of Golden Agers at St. Francis, served as a Eucharistic minister. She served as three time past President of Brown County Homemakers, was a den mother and Boy Scout Leader for Troop #38 and foster parent(s) of many children. Carrie loved her crafts and working with flowers at her home and church both inside and out.
Survivors include her five sons and their families: Cletus (Ann), Niagara, WI; Howard (Lynnette), Maple Valley, WA; Dale, De Pere, WI; Thomas (Linda), De Pere,WI; and Jerry (Debra), West Bend, WI. Her grandchildren: Karen, Peter, Sharon Sobek, Curtis, Julie Nelsen, Christie, Paul, Joseph, Marie Sauvey, David, Lynn Anderson, Jason, and Becky Hernandez. Her 25 great grandchildren: Kevin, Carrie, Zachary, Molly, Mitchell, Samantha, Cecilia, Cory, Evan, Andrea, Elizabeth, Brittany, Danielle, Kathleen, Colleen, Vincent, Veda, Grace, Hope, Samantha, Michael, Esperanza, George, and Mary Lynn. In addition, she was survived by four great great grandchildren; brother, Alan Hager in King, WI, and further survived by many nieces and nephews. Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, who passed on February 20, 1976; parents; brother, Delas (Pete) Hager; sisters, Alma Hager and Inez Berndt; daughter in-law, Rita Van Erem, and her infant children, Rita and James.
Family and friends are invited for a visitation at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St., De Pere, on Thursday, June 9, 2016, from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial for Carrie will be celebrated on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Reverend Judah Ben-Hur S. Pigon officiating. Entombment will take place at The Shrine of the Good Shepard.
