Mr Dad was the 4th of 6 brothers (and four sisters) born to Atlas and Mary Jane (Quackenbush) Lloyd. He was recognized early as being a scholar and received an above average education for a "farm boy" of his time. He taught school in Oklahoma to Hungarian miners and learned a bit of their language. He returned to NC and worked as a Teller in the Bank of Carrboro. He married Georgia Garrison, 21 June 1921. Shortly after their marriage, he accepted a teaching job in Bluefield, WVA. After a year there, they moved to Greensboro, NC, bought a house at 209 Aberdeen Terrace, and he obtained the job of Stockroom Manager at Patterson Brothers Grocery Store. Daughter, Rebecca Ann, was born May 29, 1929. About 1939 he bought the U-Save-It Food Store on West Market Street across from the County Court House. He carried many unusual "gourmet-type" items and also Kosher meats and other foods which his customers appreciated. He was a gentle man with a fine sense of humor, devoted to his relatives, and loved children. Children instinctively recognized his kind and loving nature. He was very proud of his family's Welsh heritage and taught Rebecca to love history, geography and the natural world, and to appreciate music. He was honest to a fault and lived his religious beliefs. He loved his country but did not serve in the First World War because of his poor eyesight. He thought War seldom solved any problem and believed other solutions, such as negotiated and diplomatic ones, to disagreements among nations were longer lasting and much to be preferred for the good of all mankind. A splendid man and Father.
