"Born along the Scioto River"—the tenth, & longest-lived, of 15 children born to former Ohioans Martin & Sarah (Brand) Nagel of Neville Island, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Swimmer in her youth, frequently traversing the back channel of the Ohio River between Neville Island & Stowe Township. Working-class upbringing, never completing high school. Possessed only one dress as an adolescent; changed its bow or flower daily to make it look different. Met husband of 44 years, Robert A. Johnson, Sr. (16 years her senior), at the local Five & Ten where she worked as a teenager. Three children/nine grandchildren. Widowed, remarrying, age 67, to Donald Shaffer Scott, her niece's widower. Retired from retail jewelry sales. Always proud to tell folks she had three cesarean births in 33 months. Died, 88, of a subarachnoid hemorrhage.
