Frances Penick was the daughter of William Penick and Judith (Walker) Pate. She married Philemon Sutherland on 08 April 1782 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. He was the son of Samuel Sutherland. To this union ten children were born Margaret, Philemon, Joseph, Ranson, Polly, Anna, Hope, Judith, Louise and Nancy.

Frances Sutherland applied for a Revolutionary War Pension (Claim W. 6609) in 1840.

My grandmother was in Tanyard Cemetery in 1958 and photographed the Sutherland cemetery stones, the photos are now in our care.
