Bernice James Van Booven, 85, of Seguin, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at home with her family at her side. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, June 2, 2016, at St. James Catholic Church with a funeral Mass to follow at 10 a.m. Burial will take place in St. James Cemetery.

Bernice was born in Trinidad, Colorado, to the late Steve and Lillian James. She married LeRoy on July 8, 1950, in Glendale, Arizona. The two of them spent 23 years in the U.S. Air Force and traveled the world together. They lived in France, Maine, North Carolina, New Mexico, and many other interesting places.

Bernice was a teacher's aide for special needs children for many years with the Seguin ISD. When she retired, she assisted LeRoy in the family business doing electrical work. When she retired from that, she became a volunteer at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center and as a cashier at the Silver Center. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and crocheting. She also spent endless hours holding her beloved dog, Tweet.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, LeRoy Van Booven; and brother, John James.

Survivors include her daughters, Sharon Frederickson and husband, Tony, and Ree Kaplan and husband, Edward; sons, Vanette Stephenson and wife, Teresa, and Steve Van Booven and wife, Tina; grandchildren: Chris Zobroski and wife, Katie, Tony Frederickson and wife, Rose, Derek Van Booven and wife, Katie, Samantha Van Booven and husband, Roland, Devin Van Booven, Madison Worthy and husband, Austin, Ashley Van Booven, Tyler Van Booven, and Logan Van Booven; great-grandchildren: Addie, Olivia, and Enoch; sister, Elizabeth Arlotti; brother, Nick James; other relatives and many friends.
