Leslie R. Beatty, 78, of 202 S. 40th Ave. E. died Saturday in a Duluth hospital. Born in Tower, he was a longtime Duluth resident. He was a retired county commissioner of lands and timber and had been active in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was affiliated with the forestry industry from 1911 to until his retirement in 1959. Mr Beatty was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church, was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Lakeview America Legion Post, Last Man's Club, Virginia Masonic Lodge, the Old Settlers Association of the Vermilion Iron Range and the St. Louis County Historical Society. Surviving are his wife, Martha; two sons, Owen J., St. Paul, and Leslie J., Alton Rey, Puerto Rico; two daughters, Mrs. Donald Clifford, Houston, Tex., and Mrs. A. K. McKie, Chisholm; two brothers, Russel, Cook, and James, Saginaw, Mich.; three sisters, Mrs. George Wallen, Troy, N.Y., and Mrs. William Heim and Mrs. Clifford Tingstad, both of Cook; and 15 grandchildren.
