The body of Clyde Chandler, 23, who was fatally injured in an automobile accident near Moro, Ore., early Tuesday morning, was shipped here yesterday. Funeral services will be held from the Crouch chapel at two o'clock tomorrow afternoon, with interment in Grandview cemetery.
Clyde and his younger brother, Arnold, were on their way home from California, having planned a visit at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.W. Chandler, and on their return south to take their mother with them for the winter.
Making the trip north by auto the boys were traveling night and day, and alternating driving. Clyde had taken his turn at the wheel and fallen asleep when Arnold struck a crooked, slippery stretch of highway four miles south of Moro. The car skidded off the road, down a three-foot embankment, turned over once and tore up a barb wire fence. Neither was thrown out of the car, and Arnold was uninjured as the machine stopped, right-side-up. Clyde, however, was injured so badly he died while en route to The Dalles, Ore., where the nearest hospital was located. He suffered a possible fracture of the skull and internal chest injuries.
Arnold accompanied the body here and is now at the home of his parents, who reside on a farm about five miles east of town.
Clyde Chandler was born in the Cow Creek district, near here, May 25, 1912. He attended the Northside grade school and graduated from the grade school, and graduated from the local high school with the class of '33. During his high school days he was prominent in athletics, being a star tackle on the Badger football squad. The year of his graduation from the school here he enrolled at Santa Clara University, in California, where he played freshman football his first year and turned out with the varsity squad in his sophomore year. He left the university last winter and had been working in California. Arnold also attended Santa Clara University a part of last year. The brothers had been together in California since Arnold's graduation from the local high school in 1934.
Besides his parents, Clyde is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Walter Carlson and Miss Edna Chandler, of Bonners Ferry, and Mrs. Fern Liddicoat, of Jackson, Calif., and three brothers, Arnold, Charles, and Earl Chandler, all of the home.
The Herald joins with the people of Boundary county in offering sincere sympathy to the family in their sad loss.
