Bryan Dunning, 76-year-old longtime Bonners Ferry resident, passed away at his home on the South Hill late Sunday evening, April 30 {May 1 was Sunday evening}. Although he had been in failing health for the past several months, his death came unexpectedly.
He was born March 20, 1901 in Polk County, Minn., the son of William and Annie Buerdohl {Bjorndahl} Dunning. At two years of age in 1903 he moved with his parents to Bonners Ferry, where he grew up and received his education, graduating from Bonners Ferry High School in 1919.
Following his education, he was associated with his father in the county delivering the U.S. Mail. On March 20, 1926, he married Leona Sloppy at Bonners Ferry and following his marriage was associated with the McPherson Transfer Company until 1927 when he joined the staff at the U.S. Post Office in Bonners Ferry. He held this position for 37 1/2 years and served several times as assistant postmaster. He retired in 1965 and made his home on the South Hill.
A lover of the out-of-doors, Bryan enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden. He was well known by all and his familiar face will be missed by his many friends. He attended the Episcopal Church and was a past member of the Knights of Pythias.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Leona Dunning, Bonners Ferry; two sons, Donald B. Dunning, Yelm, Wash., and Bill Dunning, Enumclaw, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. Dan (Lois Ann) Meddock, Aloha, Ore.; two brothers, Percy Dunning, Martinez, Calif., and Arthur B.
