Jerry L. Daugherty

August 12, 1948 - August 5, 2013

Jerry L. Daugherty, 64, passed away following an illness at the Jessie Brown V.A. Hospital in Chicago on Monday, August 5, 2013.

Born in Plymouth on August 12, 1948, Jerry was the eleventh child born of Russell W. and Dorothy M. (Reinholt) Daugherty.

A graduate of LaVille Jr/Sr High School, Jerry was a member of the Class of 1967.

He joined the U.S. Army and served our country in Vietnam. In Plymouth, he was a member of the Plymouth American Legion Post 27 and the Marshall County V.F.W Post 1162.

Jerry was self-employed, doing commercial and residential painting. He was a lover of music and an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and dirt bikes.

Jerry is survived by his two sons: Spencer L. Daugherty of Gary, IN with whom he made his home and Shannon R. Daugherty of Osceola, IN; and a grandchild, Riley Patrick.

His siblings who survive are: Donald E. (Darlene) Daugherty of Columbia City, IN, James W. Daugherty of Plymouth, Kathryn E. (Orville) Holcomb of Lowell, IN, Luther E. (Joan) Daugherty of Lowell, IN, Carolyn D. (Eurrat) Saylor of Grovertown, Robert R. (Millie) Daugherty of Argos, Harold R. (Phylliss) Daugherty of Plymouth, Tom W. Daugherty of South Bend, Vickey J. Daugherty, Jane A. (Dan) Miller, and Barbara E. (Michael) Gouker all of Plymouth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marilyn J. Daugherty; sisters-in-law, Norma Daugherty and Mildred Daugherty as well as one nephew and two nieces.

Visitation will be from 1 – 2 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2013 in the New Oakhill Cemetery Chapel, Plymouth. A memorial service will immediately follow in the chapel at 2 p.m., officiated by Rev. Charles Krieg. Military Honors will be provided by members of the American Legion Post 27, Veterans of Foreign Wars - Marshall County Post 1162 and D.A.V.

Memorial gifts may be made to the donor's choice.
