Martin W. Hire
Born October 17, 1856 in Carthage, Mo {I think this should be Carthage, Tennessee} passed away at home of his daughter, Mrs. Virgil Robertson, Tuesday afternoon at 2:05 o'clock after a 2 month illness. He had a stroke and paralysis. Mr. & Mrs. Hire come from Tenn. to Okla. In 1907 and settled near Sulphur, then in 1908 he moved to his farm near Marlow and in 1920 he moved to Duncan and he and his son H. H. put in a tire shop on Main Street, and he's been in that business until his health got too bad.
He was a member of the Methodist Church of Tennessee. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, at Lafayette, Tenn.
He is survived by seven sons and 2 daughters.
They are M. L. Hire of Duncan, L. L. Hire of Duncan,
R. W. Hire of Duncan, B. H. Hire of Duncan,H. H. Hire of Duncan, Mrs. Virgil Robertson of Duncan, Otis Hire of Duncan, Mrs. Derrell Grooms of Duncan, J. N. Hire of Oklahoma City. He has 26 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist in Duncan at 2:30 o'clock, Thursday afternoon. The Rev. Carleton and Rev. Fenn and burial will be in the Duncan cemetery. Bearers are, Charley Coaker, Charles Crenshaw, Ed Davis, George Lawson, R. L Posey, F. E. Stult, Gus McLair, Louis Ring.

Notes: Nothing in genealogy to indicate that he was from Carthage Mo. 1930 census says he was born in Tennessee. I think it supposed to be Carthage Tennessee, which is in Smith County. Macon County was formed in 1842 from Smith and Sumner counties.
