He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beverly Ator of Albuquerque, NM; son, Larry Ator of Rio Rancho, NM; daughters, Linda Bright of Seabrook, TX; Sharon Seeloff and husband, Phil of Frankfurt, Germany; Carol Ashley and husband, Steve; Judith Grady and husband, Mike; and Marcia Paz and husband, Andy, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren; Kelle Pido, Stacey and Roger Seeloff, Carrie Fisher, Cathy Stading, Jaime and Carlee Ashley, and Janelle and Stephanie Paz; ten great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Jace and Kyle Pido, Morgan, Kelton, Bryson and Evan Fisher, Antonio Paz, Allie Seeloff, and Zane Burtrum; sister-in-law, Betty Ator of Pittsfield, IL; brother-in-law, Norman (Jim) Myers; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Art and wife, Ruth; Carl and wife, Alice; Jerry; and Russell; sisters, Della Motley and husband, Woodrow; Kathryn Ash and husband, Melford; Pauline Myers, and Georgia Ator. Homer was born in Ross Township, Pike County, IL on February 7, 1923, the son of the late George and Nettie Howland Ator.
He married his high school classmate Beverly Deloris Turnbaugh on January 25, 1942 in St. Charles, MO. Homer graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1940, where he was active in the basket ball and football programs under Coaches Dickenson and Kessinger, and attended Illinois State University at Normal.
He entered the military service in 1943, attending various schools with the U.S. Air Force, including pilot training, aircraft mechanics, gunnery, and navigation school, graduating from San Marcos Army Air Field as a navigator in July 1945.
He spent 40 years in the U.S. Air Force, both active and reserve, and retired in 1983 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He also was employed at Sandia National Laboratories for 34 years, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed the many friends he made while at Sandia, as well as those at various projects he visited.
