Gordon M. Lesto, age 81, of Wells, died Friday, June 23, 2006, at his home in Wells from complications of heart and kidney failure.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today, June 27, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour before the service on Tuesday at the church.

The Rev. Paul Baker officiated.


Burial was in Alden

Cemetery with military honors by the Wells Color Guard.

Gordon Miles Lesto was born on Sept. 2, 1924 in Clark Township, Faribault County, the son of Carl and Florence (Clough) Lesto. He attended Wells Public School (class of 1942). On Sept. 13, 1952 he was united in marriage to Shirley Borkowski in North Platte, Neb.

He worked in construction and plastering and spent the last 20 years before retiring at Wells Concrete Products (Prestress Division).

He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marine Corps as an amphibious tank operator. His division was one of the first to go ashore on Iwo Jima and also was involved in the battles at Tinian and Siapan. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. Gordon was a member of the Wells American Legion and V.F.W. Posts and enjoyed gardening, playing horseshoe, bird watching and watching sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons: Mike (wife Patti) Lesto and Kevin (wife Mary) Lesto, all of Wells; two daughters: Linda (husband Mike) Arndt of Loveland, Colo. and Georgia (husband Norm) Miller of Inver Grove Heights.

There are eight grandchildren, three step grandchildren, four great-grandchildren andsix step great-grandchildren. Also one sister, Sharon (husband William) Gatch of Youngstown, Fla.


He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Avery Lesto.
