Charles G. Cochran was born on Given Route in West Virginia. He was the seventh child of eight children born to Farley and Maggie Cochran. He grew up on a meager tobacco farm in the hills of West Virginia. It was on this small farm where Charlie grew to love the outdoors, especially hunting. After attending a one room school house for eight years Charlie graduated from Buffalo High school in 1968. He served his country as a solider in the U.S. Army and spent the majority of the time stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was honorably discharged at the end of his service. On July 30, 1972 Charles married the love of his life, Sherryl Jean Goodman. Together they worked and raised a family of five children. They spent close to forty-four years together, being that their first date was June 5, 1972. Charlie was a believer in Jesus Christ and attended Dixon Assembly of God only on special occasions due to his total deafness. Charlie was a hard worker and provider for his family. He was a jack of all trades and mastered most, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. He attended a trade school and learned masonry which he put to good use over the years.(He rocked our house with rocks collected in our travels) Charlie, also had law enforcement training and served as a Deputy Sheriff of Pulaski County, Missouri for several years. He hauled steel for Worthington Steel in Taylor, MI. He was awarded safe driving awards for each of the eleven years he drove for them. In his spare time he enjoyed cutting wood, mowing grass, and brush hogging. Charlie was an avid gardener of many fruits and vegetables. He was always ready to help others when needed. Charlie and Sherryl opened their hearts and home as foster parents for five years. He made two trips to Indian Reservations and was planning a third trip in April. After seeing the need, he had a heart to serve. He was the caretaker of The Goodman Family Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. For fun Charlie was a hunter every day of his life; with his eyes he would search for game up and down the roads wherever he went and was very good at it. His favorite was deer hunting, which he enjoyed doing with his children and brothers. He hunted with traps, bow, black powder, shotgun, rifle, and at times with his bare hands. Charlie was very proud of his deer mounts and black squirrel that decorate his home. He was a family man and took many trips over the years. Besides visiting home, in West Virginia, other favorite trips include numerous beaches and Las Vegas. Nevada is the silver state and is where Charles and Sherryl spent their 25th anniversary. His 66th birthday was planned to be celebrated at Panama City Beach, Florida. He enjoyed a western whether on movie or in books. His go to quote was, "Square the wagons and keep the powder dry." He was a cowboy at heart. Charlie also enjoyed a good nap after playing casino games on the computer, where he always won big and never lost any money. A trait that he passed down was his playful sense of humor. Charlie could make anyone laugh. He has been a faithful Republican voter his entire life, unfortunately, he will probably be voting Democrat this coming election. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. Charles Gay Cochran was born in Putnam County, West Virginia on July 17, 1950. He was the son of Farley Andrew Cochran and Maggie Ellen (Hart) Cochran.
