At the time of his death he was the oldest alumnus of Allegheny college, Meadville, where he graduated in 1877. Among his business activities was the Centerville Water company of Centerville, IA, where he provided a modern and adequate water supply plant; from 1897 to 1907 owned and published "The Pennsylvania Farmer" at Meadville; was active establishing the Talon Fastener Co. of Meadville and was one of the largest stockholders for many years; retained interest in Lightning Fastener company of Hamilton, Ontario until his death; interested in Merchants National bank of Meadville and other banking institutions of the community. Farming had always been nearest his heart and the operation of his farm near Cooperstown was the chief joy of his life work.
