Frank was born in Whitefish on Aug. 5, 1927, to Frank and Wilma (Lent) Guay. Frank left school during the ninth grade, preferring to get out on his own and start working. He started as a farm hand in the Bigfork area at age 13, hitchhiking between Whitefish and Bigfork to get to work. For a period of time he worked in the railroad round house switching the tracks to direct the train cars. He spent most of the rest of his life working hard to provide for himself and, later in life, for those he cared for. In 1950, Frank married Cora Beth Grainger.
