Originally interred at Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond. Killed (* see obituary below) in CSA battle, Richmond.
A private, Company G, 26th NC Troops, re: NCST, a Roster, Volume VII, p. 559.

The following Obituary provided by Wayne Phillips :

Died at the Winder Hospital in Richmond, Va., on the 12th July 1862, S. W. C. SILER, in his 21st year, a member of Capt. Lane's Co. G, 26th Reg't N. C. Troops, with which had cheerfully for the past 12 months performed all the duties appertaining to a soldier's life. He was born in Chatham county, where he resided until the commencement of hostilities. Being a staunch friend of the Union he was lath to part with it till he saw that we could no longer live in peace with the North. Then throwing aside all love for the stars and stripes, he buckled on his armor and rushed to the rescue of his bleeding country; and although no missile from the enemy did the fatal work, he is nevertheless another among the many martyrs, who have yielded up their lives as a sacrifice upon their country's altar. None but those who knew his inner nature, could appreciate his many virtues. Faithful in the discharge of every duty; pure and modest as a girl; never known to utter a profane word; truthful to a proverb; a son who never gave a pang of grief to a parent's heart; and above all, as we feel well assured, a christian warrior, he died with his Bible near his heart, just as the true hero prays to die, with a smile playing upon his countenance and a faint and devout prayer escaping his lips for the welfare of his country, for which he had fought so gallantly at Newbern and other places. Green be thy memory in the hearts of the "Chatham Boys." Long and tenderly will we cherish a fond remembrance of the many pleasant hours spent in camp and on the march.

"Green be the turf above thee,

Friend of our early days;

None knew the but to love thee;

None named thee but to praise."

Near Drewry's Bluff, Va. H. C. A.

Spirit of the Age and N. C. Presbyterian will please copy.
