She was born in Brookshire, Texas to Doris and T. W. St. John and has resided in Beaumont, since 1932 until moving to Houston, Texas four years ago.
Mrs. Baker enjoyed a long career of teaching beginning with a one-year term at Edwards Elementary and was a member of the school opening faculty at Eugene Field Elementary. She retired after 29 years of service. During her career she took great pleasure and satisfaction in working with the students in B.I.S.D.'s adult education program. She was honored with a lifetime P.T.A. membership by the Field School P.T.A. and was a long time member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. Mrs. Baker worshiped faithfully at Washington Boulevard Christian Church and later at First Christian Church as a member of the Stuart Class.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hugh Baker, sisters Ann Fallis and Leah Rushing. She is survived by a son F. H. "Teke" Baker of Round Rock, Texas and daughter Sharon Lynne LeBlanc and son-in law F. Charles LeBlanc of Houston, Texas. The special pride of her life were her grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as "Wowo"; they include: Jennifer Baker of Round Rock, Texas; Mallory Hickock and her husband Jason of San Diego, California; Kimberly Bancroft and her husband Tim of Cypress, Texas; Kristin Ruffin and her husband Jeff of San Antonio, Texas; Chase LeBlanc and his wife Kristi of Cypress, Texas; and her great grandchildren: Matthew, Meredith and Andrew Bancroft; Sarah and R. J. Ruffin, Baker Hickock, and Avery LeBlanc.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday morning, June 18, 2004.at Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 N. Major Drive, Beaumont. A visitation with "Teke" and Sherry and the family will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p..m Thursday evening, June 17, 2004 at the mortuary.
