Jess A. Coulter, 85, Hiawatha, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at a Hiawatha health-care center.
Mr. Coulter worked laying pipeline and doing construction work. In 1948, he started selling used cars, and in later years, he sold real estate.
Born June 23, 1913, in Reserve, Kan., he was a lifelong resident of Brown County, Kan. His family later moved to Padonia, Kan., before settling in Hiawatha.
Mr. Coulter was a member of the Bricklayers Union.
On June 21, 1933, he married Hazel Dean in Hiawatha, where they lived their entire married life. She survives.
Mr. Coulter was preceded in death by a son; a daughter; his parents, Jim and Stella M.; three brothers; and two sisters.
Additional survivors: three sons, Charles, Lawrence, Kan., Gary, Falls City, Neb., Arlen, Kansas City; nine grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nine step- great-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha. Burial: Hiawatha Cemetery. Visitation: after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Jess Coulter Memorial fund, in care of the funeral home, 519 N. First St., Hiawatha, KS 66434.
