She was born August 29, 1916, in Plainville, Connecticut, the daughter of George and Althea "Minnie" (Buell) Bartlett, and she was the oldest of five siblings. She graduated from Simmons College in Boston and worked as a professional librarian until her retirement. Her work took her to the Far East during the Second World War, where she served on several bases as a civilian. The last position she held prior to retirement was at the Martin Luther King Library in Washington, DC. She was survived by her brother Allen (who has since died in 2010) of Apopka, FL.
