Mrs. Broughton was born in Houston County April 15, 1882, daughter of the late Carlton A. "Charlie" James and Mrs. Abigail Kennedy James. A resident of Palestine for over 60 years, she was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Broughton, a practical nurse for many years, was the widow of V. Broughton, who died in 1908.
Mrs. Broughton is survived by sons, Arnold E. Broughton of Palestine, and Dr. Jerome W. Broughton of Waco; daughters, Mrs. Zehner B. Murry of Bellaire, and Mrs. Carl (Wyoma) Reichert of Palestine; brothers, Odis James of Bristol, Tex., and H.T. (Foots) James of Palestine; sisters, Mrs. Joe Langham of Jacksonville, and Mrs. O.O. Dublin of Palestine; grandchildren, Arnold E. Broughton Jr. of Lufkin, Mrs. Harold L. Deitz of Palestine, and Mrs. Stanley Jayroe of Waco; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
